There are many changes happening in 2020 for Minnesota elections. Secretary of State Steve Simon served five terms in the Minnesota House and was elected state-wide as Secretary of State in 2014.

Secretary of State Steve Simon joins me today to decode this year’s elections changes and help Shakopee residents better understand the new process.

2020 Presidential Timeline

  • Jan 17 – Presidential Primary absentee voting begins
  • March 3 – Presidential Primary Election Day (Choose each party’s candidate)
  • November 3 – Election Day

2020 All Other State Offices Timeline

  • February 25 – Precinct Caucuses (each party discusses priorities and choose delegates for the partisan endorsing convention)
  • Each party will then choose delegates to the state convention – dates vary – for endorsements
  • June 26 – Primary absentee voting begins
  • August 11 – Primary Election (to choose final candidate for each major party that will appear on the ballot)
  • November 3 – Election Day
