2019-20 Legislative Swearing-In Ceremony

The Minnesota House convenes for the first time in the 2019-20 session at noon on January 8, 2019. At that time, all 134 new and returning members of the Minnesota Legislature will be sworn in and I invite you to join me at the Minnesota Capitol.

Please join our community and people from across Minnesota for the Swearing-In ceremony. It will be a great experience.

What happens?

The Minnesota Constitution mandates session to begin at noon on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of odd-numbered years. This first day of session is when all members are sworn in.

There will be a variety of procedural votes including electing the Speaker of the House, leadership, etc. I’m told it will last an hour or two.

Where is it?

The ceremony takes place in the House Chambers at the Minnesota Capitol. There is limited seating so most observers will watch the Ceremony on television in the Capitol.

Office

My office is in the State Office Building (100 Rev Martin Luther King Jr Blvd) which is just across the street and connected by a tunnel to the Capitol. Constituents can store any coats or belongings you’d like in there during the ceremony and meet back there afterward.

I hope you are able to join us for this occasion!
